Collaboration platform for the European connected and autonomous vehicle of the future – DIGITAL-2026-AI-09-AUTOMOTIVE
This initiative aims to strengthen Europe’s leadership in automotive digitalisation by coordinating and accelerating developments in software-defined vehicles, in-vehicle computing, AI-based automotive solutions, and autonomous driving technologies. It will deliver a strategic roadmap for key digital technologies, define high-level architectures and interfaces, and cultivate a sustainable ecosystem that enables companies, research organisations, and industry alliances to collaborate efficiently. The action supports the goals of the forthcoming European Connected and Autonomous Vehicle Alliance (ECAVA), helping align industry-wide efforts and ensuring that results from EU-funded, national, and industry-driven projects can be rapidly transferred into series production.
The project will steer and consolidate activities across major initiatives, including Eclipse SDV, AUTOSAR, COVESA, and other relevant platforms, promoting consensus on standards, non-differentiating AI development areas, data-sharing approaches, and open-source building blocks. It will also establish coordination structures—such as chief architects, operations teams and an industry ambassador—to guarantee coherence and engagement at all levels. A collaborative digital platform will be developed to host shared components, tools, interfaces, models, and software stacks, while also supporting certification, reference implementations, and long-term maintenance. Ultimately, the action lays the foundation for a durable, industry-driven governance framework that accelerates innovation, ensures strategic autonomy for Europe, and fosters a vibrant ecosystem around common automotive digital technologies.
