The call aims to enhance the Cancer Image Europe platform by developing new data services, user tools, and AI-driven solutions for medical imaging, fully aligned with the legal and technical framework of the European Health Data Space (EHDS). The project will focus on automated data curation, quality assurance, compliance checks, and risk and security management, ensuring that datasets are interoperable, high-quality, and secure.

A key objective is to accelerate the deployment of cutting-edge AI solutions in clinical and research settings, including multi-modal approaches that combine medical imaging with other health data, such as genomics, laboratory results, or real-world data. The project will also conduct multi-center validation studies to generate evidence of clinical utility, cost-effectiveness, and safety, supporting the uptake of AI solutions for screening, early detection, diagnosis, and patient care.

Furthermore, the project will provide training and upskilling for healthcare professionals and medical imaging personnel to facilitate the adoption of these advanced technologies. It will also ensure interoperability with HealthData@EU and explore synergies with other European health data infrastructures and AI initiatives, such as 1+ Million Genomes, the European Virtual Human Twins Initiative, UNCAN.eu, and ongoing digital pathology projects. Overall, the action is designed to drive innovation in digital healthcare, improve patient outcomes, and strengthen the integration and usability of European health data infrastructures for AI-based medical imaging.
